Claim type

Pick the closest match — the checklist adapts to the family.

Article 30 date anchors

Add the date that starts the relevant reservation clock. Total-loss cases need manual limitation review instead.

Incident flags

Answer what you know. Unanswered questions are treated as worst-case.

Damage visible at delivery?

Was the issue noticeable when the consignee inspected the load on arrival?

Damage discovered later (hidden)?

Was the damage only found after unwrapping, after the truck left, or during unloading?

CMR signed clean (no reservations)?

Did the consignee sign the CMR with no written reservations? This dramatically weakens the claim.

Photos available?

Overview, close-ups, seal, packaging, surroundings — at original resolution.

Seal issue or anomaly?

Was the seal broken, missing, mismatched, or replaced during transit?

Cargo value declared on the CMR?

Without a declared value, CMR insurance caps at roughly 8.33 SDR per kilo (~€10/kg).

Why this tool exists

It helps teams collect claim evidence and timing facts while the CMR file is still defensible.

How it works

  1. Enter the claim facts details.
  2. The tool checks CMR evidence gaps and timing risk against practical road-freight rules.
  3. Use the result to prepare a defensible claim file.

FAQ

Is this checklist legally binding?

No. It's a working checklist of documents typically requested when filing a CMR damage or loss claim under the 1956 CMR Convention. Your insurer or legal counsel decides which items they require for your specific case.

What if I'm missing a document on the list?

Note it on the checklist and continue — most carriers and insurers accept partial documentation if you can show the cargo's state at handover and at delivery. Timestamped photos at both ends are usually the most weighted evidence.

When should I escalate to Remo&Co?

As soon as you suspect a claim — within 7 days for damage, immediately for total loss. We help align the carrier, the freight forwarder, and your insurer before notification deadlines expire.
